Booneville Dandy Dozen forward Kenny Paul Geno will sign Wednesday to play at Georgia.
Geno. a 6-foot-6 forward, verbally committed to the Bulldogs today, one day after getting a scholarship offer from the school.
“When I went to my visit there, I had a good relationship with the coaches and players in their program and the facilities were outstanding,” said Geno. “It just seemed like a good fit.”
Geno was a first-team All-State selection this season after averaging 22.3 points, 13.8 rebounds, 4 assists and 3.1 blocks to help the Blue Devils reach their third straight state title game after winning it all as a sophomore.
A pre-season Dandy Dozen selection, Geno says he also received scholarship offers from Middle Tennessee State, Radford, Lamar, Jacksonville State, Mercer and Delta State.
“I am excited, the town of Booneville is excited and I am just glad I have the chance to do it,” said Geno.
He also said he drew interest from South Alabama, Troy, Southern Miss and Mississippi State.
Georgia, which started showing interest in him last summer, was the only SEC school to offer him a scholarship. He says there won’t be any hard feelings when he returns to his home state to play games in Oxford and Starkville against schools that didn’t offer him a scholarship.
“I think it’ll be fun getting a chance to play back in the state,” said Geno. “I don’t have anything against either one of them. It’s their recruiting. I am happy where I am going.”
